The iPhone 6s Is Going To Be Big!

The iPhone 6s Is Going To Be Big!
By: Zachary Corso

It’s that time year again, where everyone wants the newest and best iPhone. And it's not just in our country but rather globally. It’s what teens want, and what new professionals want to keep in touch with today's high end technology. It's the Individual Choice that producers use to create the next best thing. But how much better can the iPhone get. It's not like it's been the most trendy phone for years. It's every year when Apple launches the newest and best tech gadgets where Apple tries to beat there last year sales. Already Apple is on target to sell more, “10 million units…”(Reuters) in the first week beating last year targets, which makes this is huge deal. But in order for consumers to know if it's worth the $199 dollars to upgrade. You need to look at the Opportunity Cost as if you spent that $199 dollars what else could have you bought. Such as a different phone or you even could have paid for your monthly groceries or even saved what you had before. You need to look at the gain made from the Opportunity Cost and make sure that the Marginal Benefit ways our the Marginal Cost.
For example people are still pondering the question if people are going to make the upgrade. Yes the design of the phone looks exactly the same but the iPhone 6s will have an array of updated options such at the upgraded camera, 3d touch screen, and the A9 processor. Which not to mention the A9 processor in the picture to the left has shown 70% faster benchmarks and a 90% faster graphics performance than the A8. These changes have been made to make our lives easier. For example back in the day we all had our old technology phones and our cameras. But in today's society everything has compounded into on. We use our phones as our cameras, we are using our phones more as computers, and to finish it off we use our phones to communicate. Right there phones have become more Efficient than ever.
Now due to all of these higher performance and changes made to the new iPhone6s, and iPhone6s Plus. manny wonder what the price is going to be. Yes, “Apple is still very much in control of the iPhone 6s pricing…”(Smith). In this case they are acting like the government regulators putting a Price Floor on the iPhone. They want to make sure that the prices don’t fly to high for consumers. But for the phone companies they want to drive the prices down even more. Is this even possible when apple is controlling the prices. Yes, it is possible to drive to phone price through different tactics. For example different phone companies such as Verizon are providing prices Incentives when you trade in your current phone which will allow you to get a Verizon gift card to then take off of some of the Apples price tag.
Already with Apple on target to sell of 10 million iPhones the first week with have a massive economic benefit for the consumers and producers and distributors (Phone Companies). As shown last year the, “iPhone 6 is responsible for 10% or more of all the economic growth that is happening in the US…”(Worstall) But this year with the iPhone 6s has bigger projections this has big potential for boosting the economy even more.

  1. I liked the topic because it has been all everyone is talking about at school. I thought it was good you questioned it by asking if "it's worth the $199?", because I've been wondering that too. I thought that you could've got more in depth with marginal benefit and cost. Also throughout the writing there were a few grammatical errors that needed fixing, but over all good stuff.

  2. I too like the topic(even if I am a fan of android phones). It seems as if Apple has taken the initiative to get as close to a monopoly as possible. One example I have encountered with Apple being seclusive is by limiting group conversations between IPhones to just people with an IPhone. However, Apple has proven to produce very nice phones. You mentioned Apple put a price floor on the price of the IPhone in order to keep the price low for the customer. I think a price ceiling would make more sense in this situation. Overall, good article and nice connections to economics.

  3. This is an interesting topic because many would argue that nowadays Apple is driving their way towards a monopoly. They aren't quite there yet, but by the way things look it shouldn't be long. I like how you brought up the idea of making sure the marginal benefits outweigh the marginal costs but I wish you would've expanded on how that applies to this situation. One thing that frustrates me about Apple is the fact that they are producing new phones so quickly. Sure, it is what makes they a leading company but for the consumers it doesn't give us time to enjoy one phone before the new one is already out. Overall, great article!

  4. Apple shouldn't be becoming a monopoly, but with the way sales are looking, they might be one in the future. I have to agree that I am one of the consumers that likes the next best thing, and that I am an iphone owner myself. I just can't come to terms that Apple could be a monopoly now though, with people buying other phones like Androids. Great post!

  5. I like the topic but realistically you don't need the newest or latest thing when it comes out. Sure it may work a little faster and look a little newer but if your current phone works fine why get rid of it and upgrade?

  6. This topic is interesting, because many people still go to buy the newest iPhone and Android, just to out-preform the other company. Everyone wants the newest and most improved device they can get, even though there isn't always a ton of new features. But when people go to buy the new iPhone, are they buying it just to get the newest thing, or because of the actual upgrades to the phone?

  7. Hey Zach,

You made some interesting points in your article. Though I must say that next time you're going to publish a essay, check your grammar. I noticed manny errors in your writing (by the way you did "manny" in your article). Not trying to be picky, though it was quite noticeable. Otherwise, I enjoyed the different images that you included in your article. One of best pieces of evidence that you used is the line graph that displayed Apple's major increase regarding new product releases. Will the iphones be a hit or miss? I guess time will tell!

  8. I am not really sure that If it being to big will affect the outcome of sales because it seems like if something is name brand then people will buy it.

  9. I like how you chose a very pop-culture topic because it made it very relateable to the life of a Pewaukee Student. However, I would re-check your sentence structure and grammar at times. Additionally, I agree that iPhones are a huge phenomenon in America, but would have to disagree that their monopolizing the cell phone industry. Overall good job thought!

  10. This topic I could relate to very well. I have the iphone 6. One apple comes out with a new product everyone is talking about it. It's on the news and everyone can't wait to get it and see how much better it is than the last phone. The pricing of these new products are high so I think it will boost the economy. The apple brand is known by everyone and very popular.

  11. The whole point of a new version of a product is for it to be drastically better than the last model but as you said the only things that is being changed is the processor and the camera, why don't they use that money and actually make the screen drop resistant.

  12. I agree with you, I think the next iPhone is going to be huge because everyone wants to get their hands on the the newest devices, but I feel that people tend to get the new iPhone not because of the upgrades because sometimes you don't even notice these minimal internal upgrades but rather the new design and the fact that it's a new apple phone. Also for future reference you might want to reread the post because there were a few spelling and grammatical errors.

  13. This topic could go both ways, when most people are going to get the new 6s soon after being released. I don't see the point of having a iPhone 6 plus that you paid around $700, and turning around and buying the next iPhone that is a little better. A new 3d interface screen and a better camera to record 4k resolution videos, is it really worth an extra $200? People just need to think about it more, would you rather use a phone you just got not too long ago or waste more money on a new version of that phone?

  14. This topic is a very interesting one because of the vast popularity that it has in our economy and many others on a daily bases. As consumers all we want to have is the next best thing that nobody else has to show how much more of an improvement our economy grown over time. We also need to look at whether the product will work or not so it could make our break that business depending on whether we should buy it or not. I think you made very important points and covered the overall importance of the product but could try and show what it is like for the other countries and how they are effected by this product coming out.

  16. I enjoyed how you looked at apple in a somewhat critical manner, while most people are fascinated and somewhat brainwashed by the new technology that comes out almost every September. Even if the technology isn't that great, it does help spark growth in our economy. It makes sense though, the high prices that apple offers since the demand from consumers is so high. According to the supply and demand curve, it makes perfect sense, but you raised an interesting point with the price ceiling. If one is initiated, then apple might only sell their phones in other countries, outside of the regulated price. Great job overall!

  17. It seems as if Apple is starting to control the phone economy more and more each year. As Apple knows that they are popular, they can drive the prices up higher than other companies could. Since a new phone is introduced each year, Apple tries to make it better and better so that way people will want to keep buying their products. In order for Apple to gain the interest for the 6s, they have improved the phone. With the new improvements of the phone, it will make people want to keep buying their products more and more. The more Apple dominates the economy, their prices can keep driving up as the demand of Apple products is very high. Overall, I really enjoyed how you added the economic terms to this post. Along with that, you also showed how Apple has high prices but people still choose to buy the product even if the opportunity cost is better for buying a different product.

  18. I enjoyed how you used the graph to show really how much the variation in the amount of IPhones produced increased in amount from 2013 with the launch of the IPhone 5s to the new launch of the IPhone 6s. I like how you stated that the marginal benefits have to out weigh the marginal cost. You said the improvements to this phone compared to the IPhone 6 are minimal they will help the economy grow from people purchases the IPhones. High Demand = Increased Prices. I would just say to look over your post before you actually post it because they were spelling and grammer errors. Overall, you did a nice job talking about the new IPhone 6s.

  19. Overall I enjoyed how you explained the economics of the iPhone, and how you went over the features of the new phone and the thoughts behind. I think the price floor comparison was an excellent realization that I never thought of. It was also surprising that the new iPhone had that much impact on the growth of the market.
