Nike’s sneakerboot is the first of its kind. The sneakerboot combines two styles of shoes, a light athletic shoe, and a durable work boot. Since the two are combined, the durability to athletic ability varies as you progress along the 4 shoes. Since there are four different shoes, the supply is not as limited as it would be with just one. Although each shoe is considered ‘limited’ getting your hands on a pair of one of these is very likely as they are expected to be a public release(All major stores get them opposed to a private release where only select locations such as Jordan 23 Chicago).

The Sneakerboot Collection is priced from 140-250 dollars. Although they have not yet specified which shoe will be priced at the max. and min. Price. This sneaker release is microeconomic because of not only how small the sneaker market is, but, also because it is just a couple pair of shoes in a market that contains several thousands. The shoes are expected to release around Thanksgiving/Black Friday time so the increase in volume of customers will be extremely high. But, the opportunity cost of these shoes will also be very high because of the other sales going on at the time. Likely the low supply and high demand will overall make the Sneakerboot collection a big hit!

I don't feel as if this shoe will have as high of a demand as you are claiming, at least not right away. Most people don't have need for both a work boot and a tennis shoe at the same time. The people that do would probably prefer to buy separate pairs because of the lower cost each one has compared to the sneakerboot. But the fact that it is a completely new concept, and one developed by Nike, will surely make it at least moderately demanded.
ReplyDeleteI dont believe the demand will be as high as other Nike shoes, as those who want a pair of work boots want their dependable brands such as carhartt, and wont be willing to cough up the additional price which you pay to get the Nike brand. This relates to the utils per dollar we learned about. They will get more utils from a pair of boots bought at Walmart per dollar, than from these nike boots.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who is not a big shoe enthusiast, I don't understand why this shoe has a high demand. I don't think many people would want a shoe that combines two different shoes of completely different purposes. While I might not understand this just because I don't have much knowledge on shoes, I feel like this market would have very few people. Because of this, I think that most people would view the opportunity cost of missing on other Black Friday sales as too high to buy the shoes.
ReplyDeleteAlthough this idea from Nike is new and innovative due to combining the athletic and work shoe into one, I believe the opportunity cost is great with them releasing these, because only big sneaker collectors will want these, due to their newness and rarity. Most workers or athletes however, the majority of what the shoe market would be, usually want a shoe that just does the one they want to concentrate on. That is why I predict the demand for these shoes will be low due to many factors. These factors include the low price of substitutes for these shoes compared to the high price of the Nike boots. Also, even the big sneaker fans that would be most likely to get these would have more interest in other releases this holiday season such as all the new Air Jordan releases coming. So, all in all, I believe this shoe release will not benefit Nike greatly and possibly even hurt their business.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see this new concept of sneakers and shoes being combined. I'm not sure if the demand will be as high as that though, because people won't want to combine shoes for different purposed together. People would buy normal work boots that are designed specifically for its purpose, and then other sneaker for more casual use. However the fashion trend changes over the years, so perhaps the new fashion trend will be sneakerboots. However if that doesn't happen, it doesn't seem that likely for a huge demand.
ReplyDeletePersonally I don't think this shoe will have such a high demand as it is so different. Yes, society today is all about new things and change and that is what drives our economy, but as a shoe enthusiasts myself, I understand the ins and outs of the shoe appearance and what makes people attracted to these shoes and in my opinion, the demand of this style will be lower than Nike expects, however, because it's nike. There will be no need for a price change as their brand recognition is so high so the price change will not occur even though the demand is low. It's almost like the good is inelastic as there is not much change in price from demand.
ReplyDeleteAs a huge shoe enthusiast like myself, I don't think the demand for these shoes will be as high as you expect. The reason to combine the two shoes would be to save money on owning just one pair instead. However the price of this sneaker boot is way too expensive for its purpose. I think it will still sell relatively well to the people that usually buy Nike sneakers, because it still looks good.
ReplyDeleteI think that the sneakerboots will sell well, in part because during the winter months there's definetly an increased demand for a durable sneaker. Additionally though, I think they'll sell well because when the market is looking for durable sneakers, it's typically holiday season, so more high end "luxury" items are bought such as expensive sneakers.
ReplyDeletePersonally I don't think there will be as much demand as you expected for the shoes because it is a new idea of shoes that people won't want to buy. There aren't that many incentives to buy the shoes, as well as the opportunity cost being high, so not as many people will be willing to buy the new shoe, because there would be more risk in it than the reward.
ReplyDeleteI think this is an interesting idea by Nike, as we move to a more modern time many people who would use a work boot such as this are beginning to be younger, and they would want a modern boot such as this Nike one. I see this going in two possible directions, either the boots are very successful or not successful at all, not much in between. However only time will be able to tell if the boots will be successful.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good idea by Nike to diversify the kinds of shoes they produce but, I do not think that they will be very high demand. Even thought the release date of these shoe are right before the winter season, when boot have a higher demand, most would rather buy a brand of boot that has been reliable in the past rather than risking there money on the Nike sneakerboot.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good idea by Nike to diversify their products. But how much they really profit from this product is questionable. Most people who need boots for the winter season would probably rather buy a more common brand for cheaper. By the looks of those shoes they don't look cheap like everything else that Nike has to offer. But, I feel like if Nike targets consumers that are already in love with Nike, and the products they sell they will be able to sell a good amount of these boots.
