High School Football Ticket Sales

High School Football Ticket Sales
Cris Albiter

Never before has the Pewaukee Football team ever made it to the semi-state finals. And not many Pewaukee football teams have won the Woodland Conference too. And these kinds of things affect ticket sales.
For the past two years the Pewaukee football team has only made it to the first round of the playoffs. This has caused the popularity and interest of our team to decrease overtime which has decreased ticket sales. But since it was announced that the football team were playing the Woodland Conference Champs game, the ticket sales have increased. Rise of popularity equals rise of ticket sales which equals higher revenue. New and old consumers see that the football team are starting to make a name for themselves and what better way to see them play than a Conference championship game.
Not only that but being the first team ever in Pewaukee History to make it to the Level-4 playoffs also increases sales. People know that this Pewaukee football team is good and they want to watch us play and see how we’re making history. Which increases sales and the marginal benefit outweighs the marginal cost. This is the case because the tickets only cost a few dollars and if they win that would be money well spent but if they were to lose it wouldn’t be that big of a deal because you only paid a few dollars to see a good football game and ticket sales will continue to increase as they make it further and further.

  1. The recent success of the Pewaukee High School Varsity football team has had an impact on ticket sales. Last year with just barely achieving a winning record, the football team did not see the crowded and overjoyed environment that is usually created at Fuerstein Field. Now with the recent 11-1 season, Pewaukee continues further into the playoffs. Being a player on both last years and this years team, I can personally tell you our stands are way more crowded this year than they were last year. We are also predicting to 6k-7k attendee's at tomorrows game in Kettle Moraine. The high school has had to bring in more bleachers to compensate for the high amount of predicted consumers. Also we can't forget that not only does more people = more tickets sold, but it also means there will be more concessions sold.

  2. The consumer demand for tickets to watch the high school football games is the reason for the increase in sales. More people are interested in watching the team play, as their record is much better than it has been in previous years, which is the reason for the higher consumer demand. Another influence is that the price of the ticket as a result of the increase in demand has not actually increased (as it would in economic theory). This, again, is what causes more people to pay the small price to watch a team win, rather than pay that same price the previous years and watch different results. This trend of ticket sales is somewhat consistent amongst all levels of sports, as the more exciting the games are, the higher demand and higher sales there will be.

  3. People in the community want to see something and be apart of something great and the football team has done just that they have done something no other Pewaukee Football team has done in history. People are starting to sworm around the team as they make their way to state and ticket sellers have noticed that so in the case that the demand went up people still aren't not gonna go to the game because the price of a ticket went up they just want to be apart of something spectacular so with the ticket prices rising people may complain but are still going to go to the game.

  4. I would argue that the ticket sales have been increasing since the very start of the season. Going nearly undefeated in regular season play will attract more and more fans. I think it’s garbage that the WIAA charges $5 to see a playoff high school football game. I could see them charging like $2 or $3 for students but I think $5 is a bit high. I’m not sure if the WIAA profits all of that money or some of it goes to the host school but either way, I think the price should be lowered.

  5. The reason for this spike in ticket sales and revenue is due to the increasingly high demand for the tickets right now. As Pewaukee has moved on throughout the year and into the playoffs, ticket sales keep increasing because people have started to notice what a great team this is. As they move onto level 4, The ticket sales are going to be at an all-time high for Pewaukee. I could see as many as 5,000 people in attendance for CMH Vs. Pewaukee.

  6. According to the Pewaukee Football team they are doing really great this year and that some people who lost interest of the game was because of them not going to the state. In my opinion I feel like some people don't see this going to state a huge thing for Pewaukee High School because of the interest they lost, but in reality it is huge for Football players. Increasing the price of the tickets this year is a good idea because they are doing great and I feel like more people would come to the games.

  7. It’s true, with Pewaukee making history, it’s a must for the ticket prices to increase. People aren’t going to care, however, because they are in high demand to watch the underdogs who have never made it to the fourth level, take on their opponents. Consumers are aware of this outcome and take advantage of the buyers. If the Pewaukee football team wins again, you can only imagine how much more expensive the tickets will be. This is an interesting topic to take on for your blog comment. It’s nice being able to read something that I also care about. Relating this topic to economics is especially intriguing. We are able to connect real life moments with what we’re currently learning in class. Hopefully the pirates can win on Friday, but if they do, be ready for a higher ticket price!

  8. Since our team is doing a lot better than in years past that is definitely a reason that ticket prices are increasing. Another factor that might contribute as well is the timing of these playoff games. Normally there are a lot of people in the student section during the first couple of games because people are excited about football season. However, as the season continues the student turnout tends to decrease as the excitement dies down. But the once the playoffs start we play better teams and people want to catch what’s left of the season because they know it will end soon. Also, it helps that Pewaukee is a small town so ticket sales increase because people want to see their neighbors and friends play and support their community.

  9. The further that our team goes the more will people are going to be to pay to see these games. Its really good for all the stadiums that theses games are being held and and now that it is getting colder our environment it changing meaning people will probably be buying more hand warmers and hot chocolate. These games are raising a lot of more for our schools and it’s also gaining popularity building more and more of a crowd to watch the big events.

  10. The idea that this is the farthest any team has gone in school history. This in turn brings up the profit that is possible for the school to get, seeing as more and more people will want to attend this historic game. Even just a few dollars for a ticket brings in a lot of money that will in turn help out with the schools teams. In all it is exciting to see a Pewaukee team get so far and seeing as how this will be one of the most important games in school history, many people will be attending.

  11. I think it's interesting to look at the variance in ticket sales due to the success of the football team. Demand really changes depending on the success of the team. People are so much more interested in the team when they're winning in comparison to when they're losing. This game against CMH will generate a ton of revenue for both teams.

  12. I think that for Pewaukee, years like these for the football teams are very important as the demand has a vast chance to increase. The fact that Pewaukee was able to host a home playoff game for level one which we haven't done in 3 years was a huge profit increase. Also, we were able to host the level 2 game which we haven't done for a while and on top of that, in the recent years, we haven't even got to level 2. Therefore the overall profit has been able to increase majorly due to the fact that there has been a chance to increase ticket sales.

  13. I feel that this sudden revival in our football team has caused the whole school to be following what's happening. But if the football team stays on its hot streak, the hype will die down. The same can be said about the Chicago Cubs currently. If the Cubs start to make the playoffs more frequently in the future, there will be less hype around the team doing so well. This will lead to a plateau in ticket sales, or a slight decline.

  14. Since social media has also advanced more and more, it's easier to get the word out about what is going on with the school and more and more reasons to get involved. Now we have pirate fan of the week and other incentives. Additionally, we are able to achieve greater things as a community making it more and more popular and populous to go to the football games and be a part of the community.

  15. As you pointed out, the demand curve for football tickets has clearly shifted to the right with the team’s success this year. With that though, you would assume that the price of tickets would decrease as more are now being sold. However, the supply curve would be perfectly inelastic due to the fact that there can only be a certain number of tickets sold based on the stadium’s capacity. That means that with the increase in demand, the price of tickets would actually go up, so it’s a good thing the WIAA doesn’t set prices based on how many people they think will attend the game, because many people would not like the increase in ticket prices.

  16. You are definitely correct that the demand curve has greatly shifted toward the right. The high in elasticity of tickets when it comes to play-off time is another great change as everyone wants to watch the good game. Because of this the ticket price is able to increase as people will pay the price no matter what. Although such a simple concept I think it is cool that you applied it to the history-setting Pewaukee Pirates game.

  17. The demand for football tickets has made a shift to the right on the demand curve with how well Pewaukee is playing this year. I think that this topic you chose was a concept that is cool because a lot of people are really excited to see the Pirates play; even other schools who didn't make it to playoffs are excited to watch us play. I would have maybe added a little more about how economy relates to this topic, maybe talking more about the football player or even the fans that come to watch - it would have made this more interesting. You could have perhaps talked about the marginal costs and marginal benefits of fans coming to watch, etc. Overall, I like the topic you chose because it is something all Pewaukee High School students can relate to.

  18. In addition to being a historic year for pewaukee football, ticket sales have also increased simply due to the fact that more games are being played. In the past couple years, pewaukee football hasn't made it past level 1 in the playoffs. Since we won level 1, level 2, and level 3, and are advancing to level 4, that's at least 3 extra games being played, and at least 3 more opportunities for people to buy tickets again.

  19. Catholic Memorial definitely has a better a better team, but due to Pewaukee's arrogance generated by their luck this year, Kevin Renz can take credit for contributing to such a huge and important marker in history. Just kidding. But with our arrogance you can most definitely tell how this has changed the demand curve. The turnout for this game could be incredible, but what would happen to ticket prices? Would their be inflated food prices? Security problems or a loss in supply of seating, general space, food or tickets? This could definitely change history for Pewaukee, but oppurtunity is huge for whoever is running the event(KM/PHS or CMH)

  20. The Pewaukee Football Team is even becoming a topic for people who aren't normally interested in the sport. Even if they don't like football, almost everyone wants to be there for a history making game. It should do well to help fund the team for the coming years, especially considering how much attention they're getting. Have to fund the teams that do well.

  21. I have no doubt that ticket sales for Pewaukee football games have been at an all time year. I expect a large amount of ticket sales for tonight's game as well. I predict that the demand curve for tickets shifts right. There would be an increase in demand because of consumer taste- the consumers want to watch more football because of how good the team is this year. The scarcity of this product adds to the increased demand. How often does the Pewaukee football get this far on postseason games? It is a rarity and people want to be a part of the history and are willing to pay for it. I might not be willing to pay $5 for a regular season game, but because of the scarcity of the game, and additional hype, I am willing- the WIAA is aware of this, which is why they can charge that much. I know all of my friends have already purchased a ticket. I know the senior class is having a tailgate before hand. Hot dogs and burgers will be in high demand but that’s not all that will. Their complements will have an increased demand as well.

  22. Pewaukee high school football has always been an event that has quite a bit of demand, but in the recent weeks it's awesome to see how much the demand has increased. Last week at Monroe which is almost 2 hours away I've never seen some many pewaukee fans at an away game. Now with the upcoming game 10-15 minutes away and the football team creating this buzz around pewaukee the tickets sales are going to be in very high demand and I think Pewaukee will have it's biggest turnout ever tonight!

  23. It's awesome to see how much the tickets are in demand. No doubt that the hype from being the furthest team in Pewaukee history has contributed to the demand of our tickets. Even the away games are having lots of fans because they want to see their team succeed especially now that they're doing so good.

  24. It's quite obvious that there is a direct correlation between the success of the football team and demand of the tickets. Students seem to go to games no mater how the team is doing, however when the team does better more people from the community and the city of Pewaukee seem to be involved in the games and are purchasing tickets.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's good for the school and the team to know that the demand for these tickets is increasing. It would make a lot of sense that the demand of the tickets would correlate with the success of the team as the fans would want to go to the games more often. Even though these games aren't home games, fans still are excited to see the team play and continue to win games in the championship. This then is a result of consumer tastes, which causes the demand curve of the tickets to shift right, increasing.

  26. High school football always is in high demand during the post season in Wisconsin. Also, as a high school team goes further and further into the playoffs, more of that community wants to see the seam succeed and support the team by going to games. This demand of game tickets is one of the reasons why the WIAA wants the high ticket prices. On the flip side, the tickets should be lower because the WIAA could get large amounts of profits through the concessions at the game, and some may believe that concessions will get enough profits to cover the missed costs of the tickets.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Based off of your post, I totally agree with the increasing amount of ticket sales per game. Pewaukee is a very close community and we love to support one another. The football team has done an excellent job at increasing more community awareness of our team. People around the area are now hearing how successful our school has been doing and they come to our games. The strong winning streak we created definitely affected ticket sales and the increased profit for our schools athletics.

  28. In addition to the team doing good and fans wanting to support their team, the amount of fans coming to the games are increasing because teams that are beat will come and watch the game they would have played in. Also, within the school they are selling tickets throughout the week which is also convenient so that we don't have to worry about the lines at the game. But, when the team does good that defiantly helps ticket sales because fans are more enthused by a winning team.
